David Hansen

Marital status: Married
Children: 2
Occupation: Engineer
Comment: I have lived in Southern California for almost 30 years since grad school. I am an electrical engineer for NASA. I have only been back to Sylvania twice since college. I met my wife Dyana there on one of the trips. We have two sons - 15 and 11 - who keep us too busy. I still enjoy playing tennis and skiing in the winter. Still a big Buckeye fan. Was happy to see them at the Rose Bowl this January. Looking forward to seeing everyone in July.

I am now retired from JPL after 38 years. My wife is still working in health care. Our sons are now 25 and 21. The younger one will graduate this May from college. I spend a lot of the summer in Wisconsin with my siblings including Laurie and Doug. Doug will retire this July. He is a pediatrician. Looking forward to the 50th reunion.

Who was your favorite teacher?: Mr. Berning

Comment:
I graduated from Ohio State and started working for Ashland Oil in Houston.  I went to work for General Foods (Maxwell House Plant) and I've been at the same plant for 29 years (Philip Morris owned us then Kraft and now the plant is privately owned). I met my wife, Ann, in 2002 and we have been married 7 years now.  We enjoy going country and western dancing (two step, polka waltz & west coast) and spending time with our kids.  We spend a lot of time with our church and have been involved in the youth program and small group bible studies.  My wife and I went to a couple mission trips and it made me look at life a little differently.  We fed and ministered to people in Guatemala City at the historic garbage dump where they rummage for food as the dump trucks unload the trash! They are totally amazing; I never was asked for money or help from them.  They are a very proud and strong group.  I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Share an embarrassing moment or a prank that was played on someone else or on you...: As we were trying to solve our "Unknown's" in Mr. Periot's Chemistry class, some people started doing Unauthorized experiments. That lead to this famous line from our leader... "OK, people, I smell chlorine gas in here". He was a great teacher and a great guy, and looking back, and after talking to him at the reunion, I realized that he was just a few years older than we were!

David Henzler

Marital status: Married
Children: 2
Occupation: Neurologist
Comment: Currently living and working in Anchorage, AK at Alaska Neurology Center. Living in AK has been a dream for my wife, Jean, and I for many years.

Some of you may remember my mother Sandy Henzler. She turned 90 years old October 2024 and as she puts it: "I'm as ornery as ever!".

My high school course work was done December 1974. I worked the Spring semester at Bonanza Steakhouse. Started college at the University of Colorado, Boulder the summer of 1975. Could not attend High School graduation because registration for college classes were on a Friday and the first day of summer school was on a Monday; very difficult to be in Colorado, Ohio, and then back to Colorado in three days! Received Bachelors with a major in Theater (primarily technical theater, I even had to act in a play as a graduation requirement!).

Naturally, a Theater major from college is a pretty useless degree. I worked the local electronics industry for a number of years; initially in production and then in research and development. However, I missed the collaborative team effort of my college days and decided to quit electronics and try something different - I became a ski bum in Vail ! It was an interesting change of life for a while but ultimately unfulfilling. I even became depressed when I realized that some of the women walking in the streets of Vail were wearing fur outer clothing and boots worth more than my annual earnings. However, emerging out of the depression lead me to return to college, get my second major in biology, and ultimately enroll in medical school.

Medical school training was in Kansas City, KS. Two years of internal medicine residency in Loma Linda, CA connected me with my wife who was working as a nurse at Loma Linda University Medical Center. Neurology residency in Iowa City, Iowa for three years; where my daughter and son were both born. Two years of private practice neurology in Phoenix (too hot!, too much crime). Three years in Lewiston, Idaho. My family and I have been in Spokane, WA since 2001.

God has blessed my family and I in many ways; a good career, wonderful wife, daughter and son to be proud of, and a good place to live. I have come a long way from my troubled time growing up in Ohio. Most of the blame lay with the breakup of my parents' marriage soon after I started college.

The only person I remember as a good friend from my high school days is Mike Bruno. There were a few other people who were good to/for me, especially others in the school band.

I did return for a prior reunion. It was fun.

Take care of yourselves and all of the best.
What would your friends be the most surprised to know about you now?: I am a physician.
Share a favorite memory -- something that made you laugh or cry or feel pride in your school...share: Tom Watson's marching band was the best. It was better than the University of Colorado marching band. When CU played in the Astrobluebonnet Bowl my freshman year of college, the marching band had to fill their ranks with local high school students!
Who was your favorite teacher?: Chip Davis (Mannheim Steamroller) for 8th grade music and Tom Watson.

Cindy Hersh

Marital status: Single again
Occupation: American Express - Travel Management
Comment: I have been with American Express for 24 years. I started with them in an office in downtown Toledo, and then moved to Cleveland in 1987 and was there for 18 years! I loved it. My office there closed when my client's operations moved to Chicago. I could have moved to Chicago with the client, but the thought of snow, and more snow was just not appealing.

AX has had a large (7000) employee base in Phoenix for years. If I was going to retire (can you believe we are talking about retiring!) from AX, I might as well do it in a warm environment without snow. Of course, if we want to go skiing, we just head up north to Flagstaff where they have great skiiing from Dec.-Mar.!

I have been in Phoenix since June 24, 2004. It sticks in my mind so because it was 114 degrees that first day! Ah, welcome to the Valley of the Sun!

My mother passed away in 1996 after a short bout with lung cancer (she had not smoked in 30 years!), my father was diagnosed shortly before her and lived with Parkinson's until he passed away in 2006.

What would your friends be the most surprised to know about you now?: My employees think I am straight-laced.
Who was your favorite teacher?: Dr. Abel
Share an embarrassing moment or a prank that was played on someone else or on you...: Throwing up in the parking lot before a pep rally for a football game! Yikes!

Cheryl Hirsch (Shanteau)

Marital status: Married
Children: 3
Occupation: Retired
Comment: I can't believe it's been 35 years since high school. I moved to California after junior year, went broke, came back and went to Owens Tech to be an x-ray tech. Moved back to San Diego area in 1978 and have been here ever since. Married a California surfer boy, Steve, in 1981. Have two boys, Dustin and Dylan, and a daughter, Mariesa.
What would your friends be the most surprised to know about you now?: That I have this many kids since I said I would never get married and never have kids!
Share a favorite memory -- something that made you laugh or cry or feel pride in your school...share: Sliding down the hill on cafeteria trays in the winter while traveling and people ending up in Ten Mile Creek and going to class wet and cold!
Who was your favorite teacher?: Journalism teacher, Mr. Wallace?
Share an embarrassing moment or a prank that was played on someone else or on you...: During Bye Bye Birdie (I think) when Ann Boeker sat down on a trash can that had a a rubber chicken hanging out from under the lid and lost it when she saw the chicken.

Brenda Hofstetter (Fike)

Occupation: Occupational Therapy Asst.

Sally Honnold (Poole)

Marital status: Married
Children: 1
Occupation: Health Care Manager
Comment:

After graduating from college I spent 11 years in Denver, CO where I met my husband.  We loved Colorado, however after our son was born we wanted to live near family.  When our son was nearly two years old we quit our jobs packed up our belongings and  moved to the Pacific Northwest to live near my husbands family.  My husband and I have been married for nearly 23 years and have one son who will be starting his junior year of college at Washington State University.  For the past 18 years I have managed an Orthopedic Practice which keeps me very busy as well as enjoying skiing, taking walks along the water with my Golden Retriever, going to Seattle Mariner baseball games and WSU football games.

I am really looking forward to seeing everyone and will be very thankful for name tags!

What would your friends be the most surprised to know about you now?: I am not so quite anymore and I can kick-butt in Beer Pong! Laurie Johnston and I still giggle and laugh like we did in high school and college when we are together. Nice that some things never change.
Share a favorite memory -- something that made you laugh or cry or feel pride in your school...share: A few of us girls pulled an American Graffiti stunt (shave cream on the windshield and letting the air out of the tires) on one of our classmates car, think it was a really nice Camaro. Needless to say he was not very happy.
Who was your favorite teacher?: Mr. Wallace
Share an embarrassing moment or a prank that was played on someone else or on you...: Think I must have blocked all of those embarrasing moments out of my memory!
