Comment: | Left Sylvania to discover that my SHS classmates were as intelligent and much nicer than most Duke students. I am sorry to have taken you guys for granted. Go Wildcats! I met my husband of 29 years over a cadaver in anatomy lab at Ohio State, and following our respective residencies in Columbus, Dave and I drove west on I-70 to Indianapolis. We settled in a little burg of 5000 people with one traffic light. Twenty-five years later, Fishers has 75,000 people. I am so used to fast growth that it is always a shock to see NW Ohio pretty much the same. Dave and I are blessed to be sandwiched between four parents in Ohio, two grown kids in graduate school, and one first-grader. Sometimes, it feels more like a triple-decker sandwich! My parents are still in the same house from which I rode Bus #3 to Stranahan Elementary for kindergarten. My tennis days are behind me, following an unfortunate mushing accident, but I am enjoying swimming, biking and running. One of these days I hope to put them together in that order. Thank you Vicki and reunion committee. I am looking forward to reconnecting, remembering, and laughing often and much! |
What would your friends be the most surprised to know about you now?: | I have every issue of "The Student Prints," and am bringing the unofficial TSP staff photo. Have your excuse prepared in advance. |

Who was your favorite teacher?: | Mrs. Long, Ms. Graber, and Mr. Marlo |
Share an embarrassing moment or a prank that was played on someone else or on you...: | Hearing the AD announce at the winter sports banquet that our nascent Wildcat girls basketball team was so dedicated that "(we) played without uniforms the first couple of games." The boys' teams roared, and Mr. Glase flushed three shades of red. |

Share a favorite memory -- something that made you laugh or cry or feel pride in your school...share: | My and Tommy Homish's grad party. Best memory is after party when Chief Bohme and Manera had a contest to see who could break into a car first (keys locked inside). Chief won, he had better tools and more to drink. |
Who was your favorite teacher?: | TS Abel |
Share an embarrassing moment or a prank that was played on someone else or on you...: | Schaff copying most of my answers for a Chemistry test and then getting a better grade. Also Algebra class with Mrs. Hudson (if she only knew what we did before and during class). Never forget Manera signing his name on tests and then read the sports page. |

Who was your favorite teacher?: | Mr. Minsel |
Share an embarrassing moment or a prank that was played on someone else or on you...: | Graduation, returning to our seats after receiving our diploma. Occupation: | interior architectural designer |
Comment: | After graduating early, I worked at many jobs so that I could save some $$ to backpack around Europe for the summer with my older sister. Got to see alot of the world's major art and architecture, which came in pretty handy and got to see the Stones in England. It was one of the best times of my life and I often wish I could shuck the responsibilities and go for months at a time sans backpack (thanks Mdme. Vardinakis, 4 years of French and still nada) and stay in 4 star hotels. Oh well... Had to be dragged back from Europe kicking and screaming to transfer to my 2nd college. Went on to yet another college much to my father's chagrin where I studied interior design and architecture. Eventually I graduated from Parson's School of Design in NYC (to my father's tears of disbelief). Stayed in NY for many years in the 80's and finally broke the habit and realized there is a life to be found beyond the Hudson River. Once I learned how to sleep in the quite and ride in a car without falling asleep it was smooth sailing. Since then I've been gainfully employed as an interior designer for one of the best design firms in Baltimore (just 22 years) as a project manager, designing and building mega houses and spending lots and lots of other people's money. Turns out I'm really good at spending other people's money not to mention telling people what to do and using my compulsive organizing skills. Now if we could just loose this recession life would be great. Got married in the end of the 90's--10/10/99 (it's the only way I can remember the date). I finally found someone nice enough, tall enough and able to put up with my schtick. In 2002 we adopted a beautiful baby boy, named him Seth (our answering machine is out of control...Hi you have reached Jeff, Beth and Seth...) and life hasn't been the same since. What a whirlwind. He's personality glorified and a non stop negotiator. Who knew Lego would come out with so many kits. Who would think that an 8 1/2 year old could generate so much energy. Life is crazy but fun. So here we are living in a 100 year old house that is a constant work in progress (occupational hazard) and praying that we win the lottery before the plumbing blows. We get back to Ohio somewhat frequently since my sisters live in Cleveland, but unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make it in for the reunion. I wish all of you a good time and thank God for name tags because we all seem to have changed a bit judging from the photos. Vicki and all you organizers have done a fabulous job. Can't wait to see more pix from the reunion. I don't remember getting older---do you? |
What would your friends be the most surprised to know about you now?: | That I am not constantly swimming upstream. That i still like pasta and cottage cheese leftover from my munchy days---but now I add a lot of vegies. Some of my best friends are really responsible adults. |
Share a favorite memory -- something that made you laugh or cry or feel pride in your school...share: | Watching poor Mr. Berning blush while teaching "health". Getting a ride "jagged" in Mr. Marlo's Jaguar XKE and surviving. Football games and parties, parties and parties. |
Who was your favorite teacher?: | Ms. Mueller for her energy and her gruesome descriptions of bullfights and Mr. Marlo for his caring, concern and guidance. |
Share an embarrassing moment or a prank that was played on someone else or on you...: | If only I had any memory cells left. I should thank Doug Y. for that. I had to work hard to come up with the few notes above. I'm sure there were plenty embarrassing moments that I would want to forget...so I did. BUT what I want to know is how that nasty guidance counselor or was she Vice-Principle, got her yard de-toilet papered and cleaned up before dawn the day after Halloween? |

Comment: | Sylvania was such a wonderful place to grow up. If only all the kids today could ride their bikes 'till midnight and lay claim to a trick-or-treat territory that spanned three subdivisions... After graduating from U of M I spent six years as a lobbyist and political organizer for Common Cause in Michigan. Then, after a brief stint in law school, I moved to Chicago to work for a management firm that specialized in managing professional associations. That's where I learned about organizational development, training and executive coaching and met my two business partners. We formed The Communication Partnership in 1990 and have been helping folks work together more effectively ever since. I love it! I moved down to Charlotte, NC in 1996 and truly enjoy living in the south. Namaste y'all! It will be great to see you at the reunion. |
What would your friends be the most surprised to know about you now?: | That despite my strong disinterest in science and math, most of my clients are scientists, and I find them fascinating! |
Who was your favorite teacher?: | Ms. Mueller, Mr. Marlo, Mr. Hogan |

Graduated from University of Toledo (Architecture) and Bowling Green (Construction Management). Have worked in the construction buisness my whole career.
