Comment: | Hi Everyone! What happened to the last 48 years? My life has been all over the map since high school - married twice: once too young, and divorced within 3 years; the second time lasted over 20 years before we parted ways. Three beautiful, successful sons came from those unions and all live in Richmond, VA where I lived for over 30 years. Spent over 13 years in lower/middle management at Blue Cross/Blue Shield, first in Toledo then here in Richmond. Left to be a full time stay-at-home mom and help manage my second husband's business. After nine+ years of that, went back to work in administration, then GM for a construction company (go figure) and now am the Business Admin and CFO for a high end landscape design/build/property management firm. Through it all I have continued to pursue my education, my creative outlets (writing, art, & dance), and have been published multiple times, sold my artwork and photography, and developed a passion for Salsa and Latin dance and began teaching it at the beginner and intermediate level. My newest love is Argentine Tango...I hope to get to Buenos Aires inone day to take lessons from some of the masters there! Have traveled all over the U.S., Canada, the UK, France, India, Mexico, and the Caribbean, soaking up the local cultures everywhere I go. Next on my agenda for travel is South America! I feel amazingly blessed that my life's journey has turned out as it has and am looking forward to the NEXT 50 years!!! |
What would your friends be the most surprised to know about you now?: | Maybe that I still write poetry and am working on publishing a photography and poetry book? Or maybe that I have been a Latin dance instructor?? |
Share a favorite memory -- something that made you laugh or cry or feel pride in your school...share: | Gosh, there are so many! Football games, after dances, Spanish class w/ Senor Garcia, Spanish Festival, doing \'Fiddler on the Roof\' in musical comedies (with Tony Sheehan as Tevye and me playing matchmaker Yenta for Vicki Smith) |
Who was your favorite teacher?: | Senor Garcia, Mrs. Hutchisson, Mrs. Engel |
Share an embarrassing moment or a prank that was played on someone else or on you...: | Believe it or not, nobody ever pranked me and I never pranked anyone else! As for embarrassing moments...who wants to talk about THOSE!?! LOL... I do remember one day in the cafeteria I tossed a Michigan cherry at Tom Fridrick and hit him in the head with it unintentionally. He got SO mad and came over and yelled at me in front of everyone. I was so embarrassed I wanted to crawl under the table! We were good friends, but he didn\'t speak to me for DAYS. |

Who was your favorite teacher?: | Mrs. Hudson |
Share an embarrassing moment or a prank that was played on someone else or on you...: | I was in some silly sorority and during rush, I made Sheryl Heuerman and Mary Sue Bond stand up at the front of algebra class and sharpen their pencils forever, wear weird clothes and do anything I demanded. Sorry girls! :( |

Comment: | It's still hard for me to believe that after graduating early from SHS, I started a long trail of homes and jobs from Chicago to Israel to Florida to Australia, back to Israel, and finally now living and working in New Jersey. I always claim that I like a low key, calm life, but besides my work as a physical therapist, nothing has been steady for too long. From my first marriage I have two wonderful kids, Maia-24 and Tomy-21, and six years ago my happy-go-lucky husband Ron brought his 4 kids into the mix to make our own modern day Israeli version of the Brady bunch---ugh! Our stories could definitely make a sit-com, but I'm still looking for that calm life!!! I so wanted to be at the reunion-only cancelled my hotel reservation yesterday in case anyone wants to take it. Unfortunately, a new job and too many family celebrations in the near future make it impossible to make the trip. I'd love to hear from old friends-so be in touch! |
What would your friends be the most surprised to know about you now?: | Besides a few community musicals, my flute has a very cozy place in the closet---no time with all the changes in my life! |
Share an embarrassing moment or a prank that was played on someone else or on you...: | I still smile when I think of the look on Mr Allshouse' face when the band members blasted out with a rowdy rendition of a movement of 'Carmen' instead of Pomp and Circumstance at a commencement rehearsal. |

Comment: | I look forward to seeing "old" friends! What I'm doing now - I've been married for 31 years to Steve Kezur - he owns a steel company in Toledo. We have 2 children Brian 27 & Brittany 25. They are both married and we are expecting our first grandchild in april. I am a teacher & asst. managing director of a private pre-school in sylvania - this is my 18th year. Most people downsize when the children leave home - but not us! We built a very large home on 5.5 acres. It is our party house and we are enjoying every minute!! If anyone needs a place to stay for the reunion - let me know! |
What would your friends be the most surprised to know about you now?: | I'm not the quiet person anymore like I was in high school; |

Comment: | Wow. I just can't figure out how to put 35 years into a paragraph or two! Find me at the reunion and I will tell all!! It will be wonderful to see all of your smiling faces. |
What would your friends be the most surprised to know about you now?: | I am a 7 year cancer survivor and I really did tap dance on Broadway at the age of 40...um...really. |
Share a favorite memory -- something that made you laugh or cry or feel pride in your school...share: | I will always have wonderful memories of my Bye Bye Birdie experience! What a blast! |
Who was your favorite teacher?: | Fred Marlo! He was tough and expected a lot from us. It was great to be able to work at our own pace a goof off when we finished our pages. I also loved Mrs. Engle especially when she would get out there and dance with the Cat-ettes...she was way cool! |
Share an embarrassing moment or a prank that was played on someone else or on you...: | I will never forget the day that Mrs. Valo took our entire science class into the hall and hit every one of us with her big paddle! Unbelievable!! |

Comment: | I left SHS and headed to OSU, studied Human Nutrition. Met my husband, Ken in college and we were married after graduation. I worked in hospitals for several years. Then attended grad school at Univ. of Cincinnati, while working part time and having my 2 yr old son in tow. After interning at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, I went to work in dialysis centers . I retired 3 yrs. ago, after the dialysis center burned down. Very interesting story. So, now I am a Lady of Leisure! My Husband's family owns 2 pawn shops and 2 jewelry stores. Ken works with his family. He also started an art brokerage 15 yrs ago. I help him on buying trips and when needed. We have a wonderful son, Phil, 23 yrs old. Phil graduated from Indiana University Kelley Business School Honors program. He lives and works as a financial advisor in Indianapolis. We are happy that he lives less than a 2 hour drive from us. Ken and I love to travel. We have taken trips to the Carribbean, Israel , Australia and New Zealand. We are hoping to tackle Alaska and Europe someday. We enjoy dancing. I volunteer for many Jewish organizations, and have sat on several community boards , and my son's school boards. I enjoy reading, book clubs, cooking, knitting, golfing, and water aerobics. I am grateful for my good health, wonderful family and friends! Looking forward to reconnecting with good friends! Laughing, reminiscing and getting updated on everyone elses lives! |
What would your friends be the most surprised to know about you now?: | I'm still dancing! From Catt-ettes to my current love of International folk dancing |
Share a favorite memory -- something that made you laugh or cry or feel pride in your school...share: | How kind the pep band was to me the night my Grandma died. Sr recognition night for the Catettes , Basketball team and pep band. I would not have been able to dance without the band members kind words! |
Who was your favorite teacher?: | Ms. Graber, Madame Vardinakis and Mr. Mike Periot |
Share an embarrassing moment or a prank that was played on someone else or on you...: | Prank: I remember the same prank story as Dave Barnes. Feeding Mr Periot brownies and chocolate cake. Dean added Kaopectate. I helped make sure Mr. Periot received a cake from every class each period. We told him some were tainted, he'd have to find out which ones. It was too late. He'd already eaten Dave's special treat. Embarassaing moment: having my friend Denise Yanoff (Class of 74) ask if I would help her with her article in The Student Prints. I said sure! I thought I'd be researching or writing an article. Instead I ended up being on the cover of the next issue as a cave girl , being dragged by my hair by a cave man withn a bat, while Denise had written an article on dating. That should have taught me not to volunteer, but I still haven't learned that lesson. |

Occupation: | Principal |
Comment: | After graduation I went to Ball State University in Muncie, IN. I earned a teaching degree in Spanish and German in 1979. I got married to my first husband, Mark, right after graduation. I began my career with Indianapolis Public Schools teaching Spanish. After 3 years teaching Spanish, I was asked to switch to German. I continued teaching until 1990 in the classroom. I left the classroom and became a Magnet Coordinator introducing the Pre-International Baccalaureate to John Marshall Middle School. After successfully opening this program I opened another magnet at Harshman Middle School, Math, Science & Technology. After 4 years as a Magnet Coordinator, I became an Assiantant Principal at Shortridge Middle School for 4 years. In 1999 I became Principal of Shortridge Middle School. I left Indianapolis Public Schools in 2002 after 23 1/2 years to the sunny state of Florida. I arrived in 2002 as an Assistant Principal for Sarasota Schools to assist in opening it's first middle school, Heron Creek, in North Port. I remained there for 5 years before becoming Principal again and opening our 2nd new middle school, Woodland, in North Port. So far, this has kept me extremely busy and I enjoy every minute. I have 2 children, Stephen Courtney, 26, and in the Navy. He has been in for 8 years and has been stationed in Whidbey Island, Japan, Djubouti, and now Hawaii. I just returned from Hawaii and what a beautiful island. Julie Courtney, 21, is in Muncie, and attended Ball State University. She currently lives in Munice and working on her education degree in Early Childhood. Both are the joy of my life. I got remarried in 1999 to my current husband, Michael Lawrence. Michael is an Underwater Photo Journalist and has written several books and 1000's of articles for Skin Diver Magazine, Scuba Diver, Lonely Planet and many others. In 1999 he convinced me and my children to become certified divers. We did and were featured in the September 2000 Issue of Skin Diver. What an experience! Unfortunately, many of his trips are during my school year so I am unable to go. He keeps his website,lawrenceimages.com, updated after his trips. I get to live these trips through his pictures, but it is not as good as being there. I wish I was able to attend but just returning from Hawaii, getting ready for the next school year and attending a conference in Orlando at the end of the month has my attention. It was great to be at the 10 year and 20 year Reunions. Best to everyone!!! |
What would your friends be the most surprised to know about you now?: | I still keep in contact with my AFS sister Audrey Oosthuizen Abate from South Africa. In fact in 1998, Julie, Stephen, and I went to visit for 5 weeks. Watching the FIFA Championships brings back many memeories. We visited all of those spots. |
Share a favorite memory -- something that made you laugh or cry or feel pride in your school...share: | Graduation!!! |
Who was your favorite teacher?: | Mrs. Stackpole and Mr. Garcia who helped share their experiences and dedication with me. I can't forget my mother, who I never actually had because I took every other language offered. I miss her and wish she was here to see how far I have come. |
Share an embarrassing moment or a prank that was played on someone else or on you...: | The best prank I remember is on "Wiggler Webb" in Biology. When we filled the lab drawers with wadded up paper and pennies in the ceiling that dropped on his head during 6th period. He decided he would not leave us alone during study hall again. |

Comment: | I've been doing the same thing for 35 years. Worked for my Dad at Toledo Window Shade right out of High School and then bought it from him in 1988 and changed the name to Toledo Decorating Center. My son; who is 24 now went to Northview also; thought that was neat. Enjoying a slowed down pace of life, relaxing in my pool in the summer and trying to keep the business going thru these hard economic times. |
