Joni Tyler (Hollar)

Marital status: Married
Occupation: Continuing Education: architecture and planning
Comment: Hello from London. I so look forward to this reunion!

Let's see ... I moved to California after graduation (Bay Area) where I lived for 13 years. Did my BA at Berkeley (philosophy). Worked at the Berkeley campus station, which is how, through a mutual friend, I met my husband Kieron. He's a Brit. We married in 1989, and I have been living here ever since.

. I have been at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) for the last 17 years. I'm in charge of continuing education. Loooove this job: it allows me to travel, combines policy and commercial expertise, takes in lots of government work, and is generally a blast. For six years before that, I worked in direct marketing for the UKs largest childrens' charity (yes, children and architects can have alot in common.)

Live and work in London, close to the centre. We have a small flat, which we share with two cats. We travel a great deal, the rest of Europe being on our doorstep and cheap and quick to get to.

Siblings and parents are all doing well. Both parents have had health scares, but they are still doing great.

If you ever find yourself over here, look us up! We have a gorgeous art deco building at work, and nothing is finer than a coffee on our outdoor cafe terrace in fine weather.
What would your friends be the most surprised to know about you now?: That I live in London

Occupation: School Psychologist
Comment:

After graduating from high school, I attended Miami University where

I majored in psychology and sociology, and then
Syracuse University

where I completed all but the dissertation for a doctorate in school

psychology.  For the next 15 years, I developed and coordinated

services for students with disabilities at several community colleges

in
New YorkSyracuse University, and the University of Vermont.

For the last 10 years, I have worked for the
Stern Center for

Language and Learning, a nonprofit organization providing

remediation/tutorial support for all learners, comprehensive

psychoeducational evaluations for individuals with suspected

disabilities, and research based training of educators.  While I work

with students of all ages and disabilities, my expertise lies

primarily with adolescents, college students, and those attending

graduate, law, or medical school, who have disorders in

attention or learning.

While working at Syracuse University, I met my wonderful husband, Thodd.  We have been married for 19 years and have two amazing children:  Kevin (14) and Kristyn (11).

Comment:
I was drawn to the travel business in Dallas after finishing school and working in Boston. This was a wise decision because it was in the Operations Research department of American Airlines where I met my husband. Through spinoffs and outsourcing, I worked at Sabre and Electronic Data Systems (EDS). I directed many functions including systems development, technology planning, infrastructure business development and service level management.

Retiring in 2006 so I could spend more time with my family enabled me to spend more time playing flute. I play with the Northeast Orchestra, teach a few flute lessons and perform with several ensembles. I volunteer my time as a trustee of The Texas Flute Society as well as a past president.

I also write a food blog dedicated to Indian fusion cuisine. My second cookbook, Indspired, published in June, focuses on flavorful Indian fusion fare and contains original recipes that combine the spices, techniques and flavors of Indian and western cooking into a new taste experience.

My husband, Ben, is Senior Vice President and Chief Scientist at Sabre Holdings. After graduating from Southern Methodist University, my daughter Kathryn works at an advertising agency in Dallas where she specializes in marketing analytics. She also is active in the local flute community with performances and volunteer work. My son, Avi, is a senior at The University of Texas in Austin finishing his degree in computer science. We enjoy traveling in our spare time.
